24/7 Youth Workers
Through 24/7 Youth Work, we provide young people with mentors who provide them with support and guidance throughout their school years by being present in school activities, lunchtimes and mentoring 10 hours per week.
So what is a youth worker? Well, believing that it takes a village to raise a child, 24-7 YouthWork enables healthy relationship between a local school and a local church in the context of the wider community. Riccarton High, Te Kāpehu Riccarton Primary, Parkview Pārua Primary School and Life Church, in partnership with La Vida Youth Trust are working to see young people in our community reach all of their potential.
Young New Zealanders need more time spent with them. They need more listening, more encouraging and more “hanging in there”. More people who can be there for them. It requires an approach based on relationships not programmes. It encompasses role modelling, being accessible to young people and being around to help young people make good choices.
We actively build links with other groups because we achieve more by working together. We sincerely believe we aren’t the answer, merely an ingredient of a local solution.
We want to see young people enjoy their school years and build a great foundation to launch themselves into adult life.

“It doesn’t feel like it’s their role, they genuinely do care”

“I go to them as they are easy to talk to. the counsellor feels very formal... Youth workers are there to support, not judge. They can relate, so they get it.”
